## About Azuga

Azuga is a resort town in the Prahova Valley, in the north of Prahova county, at the confluence of the Azuga river with the Prahova, between the Bucegi Mountains and the Baiu Mountains. The settlement grew in the 19th century around its factories, among them the brewery built in 1898–1900, and today it lives mainly from tourism: in winter from skiing, on the slopes of the Sorica and Cazacu ridges right above the town.

The ski area is linked to the town by the Sorica gondola, opened in 2007 and run by Azuga Turism. Its eight-seat cabins climb in about five minutes from the bottom station, at 972 m, to the ridge, at 1,539 m. From there skiers come down on Sorica or on Cazacu Variantă; in summer the gondola carries walkers and cyclists up to the mountain bike trails.

### What you can see

The Sorica run, 2.1 km long with a 561 m vertical drop, comes down through the forest from the ridge to the foot of the gondola; its last section is lit for night skiing. On the neighbouring slope, Cazacu Variantă is 1.9 km long, and at the Cazacu base there is a short run with a drag lift and a beginners' slope with a baby lift. Up on the ridge you can also ski the easy Sorica Sud and La Stână runs.

From the top of Sorica you look across to the Prahova face of the Bucegi, and down in the valley lie the houses of the town. In summer people come up to the ridge for the view and for walks, and a round of the National Downhill Cup is held on the mountain bike descent trails.

### Good to know

The gondola runs daily in the ski season and in summer, and only at weekends in the off-season; the timetable changes from one season to the next. The runs open one by one, depending on the snow, and in bad weather the lifts may be stopped.

## Don't miss

- The gondola ride from the foot of the Sorica run up to the ridge, in about five minutes.
- The view of the Prahova face of the Bucegi from the top of Sorica.
- The descent of the Sorica run, 2.1 km long with a 561 m vertical drop.
- The beginners' slope with a baby lift at the Cazacu base.
- The mountain bike trails on the ridge, reached in summer by gondola.
