## About Băile Seiche

Băile Seiche (Szejkefürdő in Hungarian) is a leisure area within the municipality of Odorheiu Secuiesc, in the valley of the Sos stream, ~4 km from the town centre, on the road towards Praid. Its mineral waters have been known since 1766; a legend says a shepherd cured his sore legs after washing them in the spring where his flock drank. In 1871 the writer and ethnographer Orbán Balázs (1829–1890) bought the estate and modernised the baths. After his death the resort could no longer be run successfully and gradually declined.

### What you can see

The mineral springs are capped beside the road, and the water is drunk straight from the source, under a wooden pavilion. On the meadow behind the resort lies the **grave of Orbán Balázs**, buried here on his former estate, and the **row of carved wooden Székely gates** leading to it; the first gate, put up in 1888, once stood at his farmstead. The wooden building of the **Mineral Water Museum**, run by the Haáz Rezső Museum, displays wooden bathing cabins, a map of almost 2,500 mineral springs in the Székely Land and a statue of Orbán Balázs. In the same area are **Mini Erdély Park**, a park of scale models of historic buildings from Transylvania, and Bogárpark, a park of life-size and giant insects.

### Good to know

The resort's outdoor pool was closed in August 2017 following a health inspection. The mofetta (gas bath) and the fenced-off area around it have been closed since July 2026 because of gas and water leaks whose origin is not yet clear; entry is forbidden.

- Mineral water drunk straight from the spring, under the wooden pavilion.
