## About Béldy László Castle in Budila

Béldy László Castle in Budila (Bodola) was built in 1731 by Count László Béldy, great-nephew of Pál Béldi, who had lived in a fortress on the same spot that was destroyed in 1612. The family held it until the 1940s, when it sold the building to an engineer; soon afterwards the state nationalised it. Under communism it housed pioneer camps and a school, and after 1989 it had various public uses, including a post office. It is a listed historic monument (LMI code BV-II-a-A-11615).

Today the castle is the seat of the Budila town hall and local council, so it is a working building rather than a museum. The Neoclassical façade, rebuilt in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is symmetrical: a two-storey central block flanked on the ground floor by side wings with porches. The corners have quoins and the windows decorative mouldings.

### What you can see

The building is best admired from outside, from the park in front: the central projection, the upper balcony resting on six columns with a wrought-iron balustrade, and the pediment with relief stucco. Above the balcony door is the double Béldy-Sigmond coat of arms, held by two rampant lions. According to some sources, carved doors, wooden ceilings and the fireplace in the ground-floor hall survive inside, visible only if you reach the town hall's counters.

### Good to know

Access is that of a public institution: during town hall hours, for administrative business. There is no organised tour and no tourist visiting schedule is known. The village also has the privately owned Béldi Pál castle, a separate monument not to be confused with this one.

- The double Béldy-Sigmond coat of arms above the balcony door.
