## About Wooden Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Glâmbocu

The wooden church of Glâmbocu, a village in Bascov commune a few kilometres from Pitești, was built in 1808 of oak logs, with a shingle roof and a single tower serving as a bell tower. The votive inscription painted on the wall between the narthex and the nave, written in Cyrillic letters, names Radu Drăguțoiu, Criața and Radu Dascălul as its founders, and the painting was done in the summer of the same year by the painter Panteleimon. It is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. The building is a historic monument, LMI code AG-II-m-A-13694.

The interior cross walls were built of masonry from the start and then painted, and the most prized part of the church is the original painting on the iconostasis and on the wall between the nave and the narthex, with late Brâncoveanu influences. In 1869 a masonry porch with a bell tower above it was added in front of the entrance, painted in a folk style by the painters Apostu of Pitești and Nicolae of Mioveni. At some point a layer of poor-quality paint was laid over the old painting (a note on the inscription dates it to 1956). That layer was cleaned off in 2009–2010, and the work to consolidate and restore the painting lasted, according to the church press, from 2004 to 2013. The church was reconsecrated on 9 November 2014 by the Archbishop of Argeș and Muscel.

### What you can see

From the road you can see the porch with its painted façade, with saints and scenes in blues and reds, the shingle-covered bell tower and the dark logs of the nave. The entrance door and portal have relief carving. A rope-shaped band runs round the walls beneath the windows, and the log joints are dovetailed. The interior painting can be seen only if the church is open.

### Good to know

The church is a branch of the Glâmboc parish and remains a place of worship. No visiting schedule is published in the sources consulted, and the interior may be locked outside services. The porch has since been closed in with new windows.
