## About Holy Three Hierarchs Wooden Church in Goiești

Goiești is a small village in Vidra commune, in the Apuseni Mountains, at the end of a mountain road climbing from Abrud. Its wooden church, dedicated to the Holy Three Hierarchs, was built in 1712 to a simple plan: a rectangular nave and narthex followed by a five-sided polygonal apse, narrower than the nave. It stands on a foundation of river boulders, under a broad shingle roof.

The nave and sanctuary are covered by a semi-cylindrical vault, while the narthex has a flat ceiling. Above the narthex rises a slender tower with a sharp spire, said to be among the tallest in the Apuseni area. The church is a historic monument (LMI code AB-II-m-A-00232).

### What you can see

The main attraction is the interior painting, dated 1791 on the vault of the nave and attributed to the painter Simion Silaghi of Abrud, also known as "the painter of the Apuseni". The vault shows seraphim and cherubim on a starry ground, prophets in medallions, the Virgin and Child between archangels and biblical scenes, among them the sacrifice of Abraham. There are also the royal icons of the iconostasis, of 1790, and a wooden chandelier of 1791. Old books and an iron semantron are kept as well, and the bells were cast in Sibiu in 1923.

From outside, the church is best seen from the slope behind it: the shingle roof, the dark tower and the spire stand out above the cemetery, with forest and hills behind.

### Good to know

The România Atractivă platform lists it as open to visitors on request, with advance arrangement; no official schedule is published. A board at the entrance gives a description of the monument and a plan of the church, in Romanian, English and French.
