## About Saint Demetrius Wooden Church in Larga

Larga is a village in Suciu de Sus commune, in the Lăpuș Land, and its wooden church, dedicated to Saint Demetrius, can be seen from afar on a hill in the middle of the village, surrounded by the graveyard. The list of historic monuments dates it to 1771, but the Cyrillic inscription above the entrance door, which names the village priest and his wife, shows that it was raised in 1802. Because the congregation was poor, the church was only consecrated in 1816. The village is documented from 1610.

The plan has a porch (of the open-vestibule type), a nave and an altar, and the four-pitched shingle roof is crowned by a bell tower with an open gallery and a balcony, ending in a spire with a pentagonal eave line. The exterior decoration is concentrated on the frame of the entrance door. The church is a category A historic monument (LMI code MM-II-m-A-04594).

### What you can see

In the narthex, the Wheel of Life is painted on the west wall, between the sun and the moon, and the east wall carries the Last Judgment and the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. A damaged inscription names Gheorghe Opriș as the painter. On the north wall of the nave are saints under arches and scenes from the New Testament and the Passion, and the iconostasis, painted in three registers, preserves the figures of Saint Anthony and Saint Euthymius. The church's movable heritage includes icons on wood, glass icons from the Nicula school and a cross-candelabrum decorated with seraphim.
