## About Gyárfás Manor

Gyárfás Manor stands in the town of Cristuru Secuiesc (Székelykeresztúr), on Petőfi Sándor Street, in a park. Building began in 1728, in three stages, in the Classicist style, for a member of the Wesselényi family; it later passed by inheritance to the Gyárfás family of Leț. Archaeological finds show that a stone building stood on the site as early as the 15th century.

The place is known above all as a memorial to the poet Petőfi Sándor. On the night of 30–31 July 1849, during the revolution, the poet stopped here with General Józef Bem as a guest of the owner; the next day he died at the Battle of Albești. Tradition says his last poem was written under the pear tree in the yard, known today as "Petőfi's pear". The last mistress of the house from the Gyárfás family was evicted at nationalisation; in the communist period the building served as a pulmonary hospital and later as a residential centre for children with disabilities.

The town hall, which owns the building, restored it through the "Attractive Romania" programme (PNRR), with an investment of over 8 million lei, and it was inaugurated on 24 May 2026. The manor is part of the "Manor Route", one of the programme's cultural routes.

### What you can see

The single-storey house, with a columned porch and a memorial plaque to Petőfi on its façade, has been returned to its original appearance. Inside are displayed the restored frescoes and ceiling, the original beams, a period piano, and three family albums and a kitchen sideboard saved from dispersal. In the yard stands Petőfi's pear tree, and a time capsule with poems written by local pupils has been sealed for fifty years at the manor.
