## About Constitution Square (Piața Constituției)

Piața Constituției, Constitution Square, is the vast esplanade in front of the [Palace of the Parliament](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/palatul-parlamentului), open towards Bulevardul Unirii, which starts here and runs to Piața Unirii, and crossed by Bulevardul Libertății. It took shape in the 1980s, as the centre of the capital was remodelled, as the ceremonial front of the building. Seen from one end to the other, the square is a broad plateau with flagpoles and rows of colonnaded blocks along its sides, and the boulevard disappears into the distance.

Over the years the esplanade has hosted concerts for tens of thousands of people, among them Bon Jovi (July 2011) and Iron Maiden (July 2013). In the 2010s the Bucharest City Hall also organised the big New Year's Eve concert here, with tens of thousands of participants.

### The Bucharest Christmas Market

In winter the square hosts the Bucharest Christmas Market, organised by the Bucharest City Hall. It usually opens at the end of November and runs until the end of December, and entry is free. For the 2026 edition, the Bucharest City Hall has announced the opening on 27 November, for one month, with 133 stalls, a 30 m tree and a panoramic wheel. Recent editions have had more than 120 wooden stalls with handicrafts, food and hot drinks, a tree about 30 metres tall, a panoramic wheel, Santa's House and a stage with carols, folk ensembles and concerts. Bucharest has other Christmas markets too in recent editions, for example in Piața Universității and in Drumul Taberei Park (West Side).

### What you can see

The rest of the year the square is mostly a place to look around and walk across: the view down Bulevardul Unirii, the esplanade with its three flagpoles and the front of the Palace of the Parliament seen head-on. At the edge stands a street clock with the inscription "Parlament".

### Good to know

When a stage or stalls are put up for a concert or for the market, part of the esplanade is fenced off and traffic around it is restricted. The entrance to the Palace of the Parliament is not from the square but on Strada Izvor.
