The county seat, Călărași, stands on the bank of the Borcea, while Oltenița, where the Argeș flows into the Danube, was a port and a merchants' town. Tourist attractions in Călărași county are few but meaningful: the Lower Danube Museum in Călărași and the Gumelnița Civilisation Museum in Oltenița gather the remains of the Neolithic culture that lived on these banks, while Lake Mostiștea and the river's marshes and islets draw birds and anglers.
