# Tourist attractions in Dâmbovița County

[Romania](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/attractions) › [Muntenia](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/region/muntenia)

Dâmbovița descends from the Bucegi plateau, along the Ialomița valley with small resorts such as Pucioasa, to the plain south of Titu. In the middle stands Târgoviște, for centuries the capital of Wallachia: the Princely Court, the Chindia Tower and the surrounding churches are the first things to see for anyone wondering what to visit in Dâmbovița county. The north of the county is mountain country, though, and the best-known spots on the Bucegi plateau belong, administratively, here rather than to Prahova.

[Babele](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/babele) and [the Bucegi Sphinx](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/sfinxul-din-bucegi), the wind-carved rocks at around 2,200 m, are the classic target; you reach them by cable car from Bușteni or along the [Transbucegi](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/transbucegi), the only paved road up to the plateau. Down in the Ialomița valley, [Ialomița Cave](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/pestera-ialomitei), with a monastery pressed against its entrance, is visited with a guide, and the Bolboci reservoir mirrors the mountain. On the plain, the [Brâncoveanu Palace in Potlogi](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/palatul-brancovenesc-potlogi) is one of the best-preserved residences of Constantin Brâncoveanu.
