Giurgiu is the lowland county between Bucharest and the Danube, with river meadows, woods left over from the old Vlăsia forest and farming villages. The town of Giurgiu, a river port, is linked to Ruse in Bulgaria by the Friendship Bridge and keeps in its centre the Clock Tower from the days of Ottoman rule. Anyone looking for tourist attractions in Giurgiu county will almost certainly end up at Comana, where a monastery that tradition attributes to Vlad the Impaler, a nature park and a wetland the locals simply call "the marsh" come together.

The [Neajlov Delta](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/delta-neajlovului), the marsh of around 1,100 ha in Comana Nature Park, can be explored by small boat, rowing boat or kayak, through narrow channels and reeds full of birds, less than an hour from the capital. Comana Monastery, with its fortress-like walls, and the surrounding forest, where wild peonies bloom in spring, round off a day trip.
