Iași County spreads over the hills between the Siret and the Prut, with the wide valleys of the Bahlui and the Jijia and old vineyards at Cotnari and Bucium. The county seat is Iași, the former capital of Moldavia, home to the country's first modern university and to the Junimea literary society, set on hills, with Copou, the Palace of Culture, the churches of the Three Hierarchs and Golia and a dense cultural life. Pașcani, Hârlău and Târgu Frumos are the smaller towns. The places to visit in Iași County are split between the city and the boyar residences around it.
