## About Dicasterial Palace

The Dicasterial Palace fills an entire block in Cetate, between Piața Țepeș Vodă and the surrounding streets, and for a long time it was the largest building in Timișoara. It was built between 1855 and 1860, on the site of an older 18th-century building, as the seat of the administration of the Voivodeship of Serbia and the Banat of Temeschwar, an institution dissolved in 1860. The name comes from the "dicasteries", the administrative offices that were meant to work here.

The architecture is historicist, with Italian Renaissance elements, inspired by Florentine palaces: straight façades with arched windows and rusticated stone on the ground floor. The building has three storeys around three inner courtyards. Today it houses the Timișoara District Court, the Timiș Tribunal and the Timișoara Court of Appeal.

### What you can see

The palace is seen from the outside, from the surrounding streets. On a pedestrian street in Cetate you can follow the long façades, with the ground floor of broad rusticated stone, the tall arched windows and the portal with large wooden doors, the flags and the plaques on the wall. From the corner of the building you see the whole mass of the building, with its decorated cornice and hipped roof.

### Good to know

The palace is a working court building and cannot be visited like a museum. People enter the building, after a security check, only for hearings and business with the court. Visitors see the building from outside, at any time.
