## Ski slopes in or on the edge of a city: which ones operate

A few cities have their own slope, which you reach without a long mountain drive:

- **Cluj-Napoca:** [Feleacu Ski Slope](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/partia-feleacu), 10 km away, floodlit in the evening.
- **Brașov:** [Poiana Brașov](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/poiana-brasov) is the city's own resort, linked to the centre by bus 20.
- **Sibiu:** [Păltiniș](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/paltinis) belongs administratively to the city of Sibiu, although it is 32 km away and does not border the city.
- **Gura Humorului:** [Șoimul Ski Slope](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/partia-soimul) runs down to the Ariniș Complex, 5 km from the centre.
- **Câmpulung Moldovenesc:** [Bucovina Ski Slope](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/partia-bucovina) and [Rarău Ski Slope](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/partia-rarau), on the edge of the town.
- **Petroșani, Vulcan and Lupeni:** [Parâng Ski Resort](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/statiunea-parang), [Vulcan Pass](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/pasul-valcan) and [Straja](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/straja) have lifts that start from the town or, at Parâng, 9 km from the centre of Petroșani.
- **Piatra Neamț:** the slope on [Cozla](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/cozla-piatra-neamt) has been closed since 2019; only the gondola runs.

## A day of skiing from the city: train, bus and night skiing

For a day of skiing without a car, the simplest are the Prahova Valley and Brașov. Bucharest–Brașov trains stop at Sinaia, Bușteni, Azuga and Predeal; from Bușteni station to the bottom of the Kalinderu slope it is about 20 minutes on foot, and from Azuga station about 3 km to the bottom of the Sorica slope. From Brașov, bus 20 goes up to Poiana, and from Sibiu the Tursib ski bus to Arena Platoș.

If you only have an evening, choose a slope with night skiing close to the city: Feleacu near Cluj, Arena Platoș near Sibiu, Subteleferic at Predeal, Șoimul at Gura Humorului. The full list of slopes with night skiing is in the [main guide](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/guides/partii-de-schi-romania#schi-nocturn).

Small, low-lying slopes, such as Feleacu, Casa Baraj or Șoimul, open with artificial snow and depend on the cold: check on the slope's page whether it is open before you set off. When the slopes usually open is in the [guide to the season](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/guides/cand-se-deschid-partiile).
