## About Izvoare Mountain Resort

Izvoare is a tourist area in the Igniș Mountains of Maramureș, set at about 900 m in Poiana Soarelui, on the edge of the forest, roughly 27 km from Baia Mare. Administratively it belongs to the commune of Desești, but the usual road comes from Baia Mare, through Firiza, past the reservoir. For a long time Izvoare was the ski area closest to the city, with chalets and short slopes; then winter activity stopped for a long period.

In 2022 a new operator, Izvoare Resort, reopened the slope and began renovating the chalets, and in December 2025 it opened an artificial slope, where you can ski and go tubing whatever the snow. Today the resort is a complex with accommodation, a restaurant and a spa at the foot of the slopes, suited above all to beginners and families.

### What you can see

In winter, snow permitting, there are three slopes, about 1.2 km in total: Cora, 740 m long and of medium difficulty, reached by chairlift; Poiana Soarelui, 350 m and easy, with a drag lift and a conveyor belt; and the ski school slope, around 150 m, with an artificial surface or natural snow depending on the season. The ski school, rental centre and tubing and sledging area are here too.

In summer the artificial slope stays open for skiing and snowboarding, and around it there are drift karts, mountain karting, horse riding, quad bikes and buggies, a zip line, an adventure tower, a trampoline park and bike trails. A waymarked mountain trail with a red triangle also starts from the resort, towards Ciontolan-Arșița peak and Chiuzbaia.

### Good to know

The chairlift and drag lift on the natural-snow slopes run only when the snow and the technical condition of the lifts allow; the artificial slope and tubing do not depend on snow. It is advisable to book activities in advance, especially at weekends and for groups, and some may be rescheduled in bad weather.

## Don't miss

- First turns on skis on the ski school slope, with a conveyor belt.
- Tubing runs on the artificial surface, in summer and winter.
- The road to the resort past the Firiza reservoir.
