## About Lake Mogoșa

Lake Mogoșa, also known as Lake Bodi, lies at 731 m in the forests of the Gutâi Mountains, at the foot of Mogoșa Peak (1,246 m), within the town of Baia Sprie. It is a reservoir of about 4 hectares, surrounded by forest, just 18 km from Baia Mare.

The lake was created around the middle of the 19th century, when an earth dam held back the water of nearby springs as a reserve for the mines of the Baia Sprie area; a local legend called it the Fairies' Lake. In the 1960s the dam was raised and strengthened, and the lake took the name of the engineer who led the work, Bodi. A wooden chalet first stood on the shore, until it burnt down in the late 1970s, and in 1984 the much larger Cabana Mogoșa opened. Since 2020 the area has been redeveloped as Domeniul Mogoșa, with holiday cabins, events and water sports.

### What you can see

A themed path of about 1 km circles the lake on almost flat ground, with the water on one side and the forest on the other. On the chalet side are the terrace, the beach with sun loungers and the spot where you can hire kayaks or paddleboards. Above the lake climbs the old ski slope of Mogoșa Peak, and from the chalet area a red-triangle trail leads to Poiana Boului and Creasta Cocoșului.

### Good to know

Don't confuse it with Lake Bodi-Ferneziu in Baia Mare, which has a similar name. The terrace and water sports only run in summer; from October to April the operator carries out improvement works.

## Don't miss

- The themed path of about 1 km around the lake, on flat ground between the water and the forest.
- A kayak or paddleboard outing on the lake, with Mogoșa Peak above.
- The lakeside terrace, with more than 200 seats, open daily in summer.
- The red-triangle trail from the chalet area to Poiana Boului and the crags of Creasta Cocoșului.
