## About Luna Șes

Luna Șes is the tourist area of the town of Negrești-Oaș, an open space of about 250 hectares at the foot of Pietroasa Peak (1,201 m), on the upper course of the Talna Mare stream, in the Oaș Country (Țara Oașului). Its ski slope, the only one in Satu Mare county, opened in January 2024 at the end of a long project: the chairlift had been handed over as early as 2012, while the access road, the car park, the water and power networks and the reservoir for the snow cannons were completed in stages.

The ski area is run by a public service of the town of Negrești-Oaș. The slope is certified as intermediate (red), so it is meant for skiers with some experience rather than for first steps on skis. It is floodlit for evening skiing and has a snowmaking system. In summer Luna Șes remains a place to get out into nature, with waymarked mountain trails and an adventure park.

### What you can see

The slope is 2.1 km long and about 50 m wide and runs down from the ridge of Pietroasa to the base next to the car park. It is served by a four-seat chairlift whose top station stands at 1,200 m, close to the peak. On the ridge above the slope stands the Oaș Sphinx (Sfinxul Oașului), a volcanic rock formation protected as a natural monument.

From the foot of the slope, waymarked trails lead to Pietroasa Peak, past the Oaș Sphinx, and to Țiganu Peak, along the wooded ridges that close off the Oaș Country to the east.

### Good to know

The slope only climbs to 1,200 m, so the season depends heavily on temperatures: in mild winters the opening can be delayed until January, even with artificial snow. The start of the season is announced by Negrești-Oaș town hall.

## Don't miss

- The run down the 2.1 km red slope, from the ridge of Pietroasa to the base.
- Evening skiing on the floodlit slope.
- The Oaș Sphinx, the volcanic rock near Pietroasa Peak, above the slope.
- The waymarked trails that start at the foot of the slope towards Pietroasa and Țiganu peaks.

## Good to know before you go

### Getting there

**By car:** from the centre of Negrești-Oaș, take the modernised local road DC75 up to the foot of the slope, ~13 km (~20 minutes). From Satu Mare it is ~60 km (~1 hour 15 minutes), on the DN19 to Negrești-Oaș, and from Baia Mare ~59 km (~1 hour 20 minutes). In winter the last few kilometres may be covered in snow: check the road conditions and fit your car for winter.

### Where to park

At the foot of the slope, at the end of the access road, there is a car park built by the town hall.

### Fees & discounts

Entry to the tourist area is free. Chairlift prices are approved by decision of the Negrești-Oaș Local Council and may change from one season to the next.

### Rules

The slope is red, for intermediate and advanced skiers: keep to the markings and safety rules on the slope. In the mountains, stay on waymarked trails, with suitable clothing and good footwear; wild animals live in the surrounding forests, so do not leave food or rubbish behind.
