## About Frederic Storck and Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck Museum

The house at 16 Vasile Alecsandri Street was built between 1911 and 1913 by the sculptor Frederic Storck (1872–1942) and the painter Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck (1879–1969), to their own plans and with the help of the architect Alexandru Clavel. It was both home and studio to the two artists, and it is a listed historic monument. The façade has a red ground floor and a half-timbered upper storey, and the bas-reliefs and the frieze under the cornice, with Frederic Storck's profile between winged lions, are the sculptor's own work.

In 1951 Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck and her daughters donated the collection to the state, and the house opened as an art museum. Today the museum belongs to the Bucharest Municipality Museum.

The collection brings together the work of a whole family of artists: sculptures by Karl Storck (1826–1887), Carol Storck (1854–1926) and Frederic Storck, paintings, ink and charcoal drawings, pastels and watercolours, bronze plaques and medals, ancient coins and icons.

### What to see

The rooms keep the decoration the artists planned: Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck's mural "Earthly Love and Spiritual Love" (1912–1915), gilded coffered ceilings and period furniture, among busts, bronze statuettes and framed drawings. The garden holds columns, capitals and stone fragments, plus two "Merry Masks" made by Karl Storck in 1852 for the façade of the National Theatre in Bucharest.

### Good to know

The museum has been temporarily closed since 6 August 2025, for technical reasons. The house can be seen from the street, through the garden fence. Before you set out, check the Bucharest Municipality Museum's website to see whether it has reopened.
