## About Parâng Ski Resort

The Parâng resort is the ski area of the city of Petroșani, on the northern slope of the Parâng Mountains, above the Jiu Valley. The paved road from Petroșani (DJ709F) climbs to the Rusu area, about 9 km from the city centre, where two chairlifts start, each running for more than 2 km up to the resort itself: a cluster of chalets and villas scattered among spruces, below Parângul Mic Peak (2,074 m). In 2009 the Petroșani–Parâng area was certified by government decision as a tourist resort of national interest.

Skiing here has a tradition of several decades: the old chairlift, built in the early 1970s, still runs today. In 2014 a new chairlift with four-seater chairs was added, also starting from the Rusu area. Both lifts are run by Petroșani City Hall.

### What you can see

The slopes run down through open glades and among spruces, around the top stations of the chairlifts. Slope A, with a drag lift, a conveyor belt and a baby ski lift, is the place for beginners and children; Slope B and the slope under the chairlift are for skiers who are already confident on the descents. From the chairlift you can look back at Petroșani spread out in the Jiu Valley.

In summer, waymarked trails lead from the resort towards the Parâng ridge, with Parângul Mare Peak (2,519 m), the highest in the massif.

### Good to know

The paved road from Petroșani goes as far as the bottom stations of the chairlifts, from where you ride the chairlift up to the resort. The lifts run in winter, during the day, depending on snow and weather.
