## About Kiseleff Park

Kiseleff Park lies on both sides of Kiseleff Road in northern Bucharest, in the triangle between Ion Mihalache boulevard, Aviatorilor boulevard and Ion Mincu street. It was laid out after 1832, the year the road was built, on the site of a forest that covered the area. The plans are by the landscape architect Wilhelm Mayer, who also worked on [Cișmigiu Gardens](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/parcul-cismigiu), and its completion is linked to Prince Gheorghe Bibescu and his brother Barbu Știrbey. Its present name comes from the Russian count Pavel Kiselyov (Kiseleff), who headed the administration of Wallachia between 1829 and 1834; the park has borne it since 1915. The whole is a listed historic monument (LMI code B-II-a-B-18982).

### What you can see

Under tall old trees, paved avenues lead to a small lake with a stone edge, a fountain and floating nesting boxes for waterfowl. In a clearing stands a wooden gazebo with a metal roof, around which many visitors gather. Along the paths are busts of cultural figures, among them Nicolae Leonard, Ovid and Barbu Ștefănescu Delavrancea. On the plinth where the statue of King Ferdinand once stood, a statue of the Persian poet and astronomer Omar Khayyam has stood since 2001, and a group of four sculptures is by George Apostu. Since 2000 the park has also held the Monument of the Romanian Infantry, in bronze, made by Ioan Bolborea on the site of an interwar monument to the infantryman.

### Good to know

Kiseleff Road cuts the park in two, so a walk takes in both halves.
