## About Pucioasa Spa Resort

Pucioasa is a spa and climatic resort in Dâmbovița county, at about 350–400 m above sea level, in the Ialomița valley, 20 km from Târgoviște, among the Subcarpathian hills. Since 1999 it has held the status of a tourist resort of national interest.

The sulphurous springs were discovered in 1828 by a Russian army doctor, and the water, known locally as "pucioasă", also gave the town its name. In 1873 the waters were analysed by Austrian specialists at the Vienna Exhibition, and at the end of the 19th century the bathing establishment was built to plans by the architect Kertsch of Galați. Before that, visitors stayed in locals' houses and bathwater was brought to them in barrels.

### What you can see

The heart of the resort is its **treatment centres** in the Ceres and Turist hotels, where the sulphurous, sulphated, bicarbonate, calcium and sodium chloride water is used in tub baths, paraffin wraps, inhalations and aerosols. The cures are recommended for locomotor, respiratory, ENT and skin conditions.

In the centre is **Independenței Park**, a historic park laid out from the second half of the 19th century, with the monument to the soldiers killed in the Second World War at its entrance. About 1.4 km to the north, on the DN71, the **Pucioasa reservoir** covers 91 ha and entered service in 1974 as part of a hydroelectric complex; hundreds of wild ducks live on the water and along the banks.

### Good to know

The Ceres and Turist hotels, which house the treatment centres, have announced works: at Ceres the kinesitherapy room is being repaired, and at Turist the rehabilitation of the sulphurous water capture and transport network is due.
