## About Rarău Ski Slope

The Rarău ski slope runs down the northern flank of Mount Rarău, just south of the town of Câmpulung Moldovenesc, on the DJ175A county road towards Chiril, in the Izvorul Alb valley. Work began in 2009, stopped for several years for lack of money, resumed in 2016, and the slope was opened in January 2019 as a municipal investment, funded mostly by the Ministry of Tourism.

The slope faces north and lies in a forested area where the snow lasts a long time, and its base is only a few kilometres from the town centre. In winter it is a place for a day or a weekend of skiing in Bukovina; in summer, the gondola takes visitors up towards the Rarău plateau.

### What you can see

The gondola starts at the foot of the slope, in the Izvorul Alb valley, and climbs in a few minutes to 1,220 m, above the spruce forest. From the top, the intermediate slope runs down for 2.84 km to 756 m, with a vertical drop of 455 m, along a corridor cut through the forest, 30–80 m wide. The slope is floodlit for evening skiing and has snowmaking equipment. At the top station there is a relaxation area, and from there a waymarked trail climbs towards the Pietrele Doamnei area and the Rarău chalet.

### Good to know

There is only one lift on the slope, the gondola; there are no chairlifts or drag lifts. The ski season depends heavily on snow and weather: the start can be delayed until January, and operations may be suspended for a few days when the weather is bad. In summer the gondola runs only on certain days, usually at weekends.

## Don't miss

- The gondola ride above the spruce forest, up to 1,220 m.
- The run of almost 3 km down the slope corridor, nearly to the edge of town.
- Evening skiing on the floodlit slope.
- The waymarked trail from the top station towards the Pietrele Doamnei area, in summer.
