# Tourist attractions in Dobruja

[Romania](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/attractions)

Dobruja is the land between the Danube and the Black Sea, in south-eastern Romania, made up of Constanța and Tulcea counties. It is a region of low plateau and steppe, with the Măcin Mountains – the oldest in the country – in the north and lagoon lakes along the coast. Here the Greeks founded the first colonies on what is now Romania's shore, here the Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans passed through, and the villages still keep Turkish, Tatar, Lipovan, Greek and Aromanian communities today. Constanța, the ancient Tomis, is the country's largest port; Tulcea is the gateway to the Danube Delta. What you can visit in Dobruja is about the sea, the Delta and history.

The coast runs from [Mamaia Beach](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/plaja-mamaia) to [Vama Veche](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/vama-veche), with Eforie and the other resorts in between. The [Constanța Casino](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/cazinoul-din-constanta) is the city's symbol, while the [Histria Fortress](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/cetatea-histria) preserves the ruins of the oldest Greek settlement on this shore. To the north, the [Danube Delta](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/delta-dunarii) and the [Enisala Fortress](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/cetatea-enisala) are the main reasons to head for [Tulcea County](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/county/tulcea).
