## About Semenic Resort

Semenic is a mountain resort in Caraș-Severin County, set at about 1,400 m on the high plateau of the Semenic Mountains, some 40 km from Reșița. Administratively it belongs to the commune of Văliug, and it is certified as a tourist resort of local interest. The mountain became a place for hiking and skiing after the First World War, when visitors from Reșița began to come up here, and the first tourist shelters were built in the 1930s.

In winter Semenic is a ski destination for people from the Banat, with easy and intermediate slopes served by drag lifts on the sides of Piatra Goznei Peak. In summer the plateau, with its meadows and spruce and beech forests, is a starting point for hikes in the Semenic – Caraș Gorge National Park.

### What you can see

The resort's hotels, guesthouses and chalets are grouped on the plateau beneath Piatra Goznei Peak (1,447 m), the highest point of the range, topped by a telecommunications relay that can be seen from far away. The slopes run down the sides of the peak: Goznuța and Crucea de Brazi, right next to the resort, and the longer Slalom Uriaș, to the north-west. When there is enough snow, you can also ski down the forest road of about 6 km that links the resort with Văliug.

On the edge of the resort lies Lacul Vulturilor, a small mountain lake. Waymarked trails of the national park start from the resort: the red cross towards Comarnic Cave (13.9 km) and the blue dot towards Cuptoare.

### Good to know

The lifts on the slopes have different operators and only run when there is enough snow, mostly at weekends; the drag lift at Crucea de Brazi was stopped after its cable broke. Reșița City Hall, together with Caraș-Severin County Council and Văliug City Hall, is building a new ski area with a gondola, about 15 km of slopes and snowmaking: the snowmaking network and the storage lake are finished, the gondola is not. The DJ582E road from the Prislop Pass is cleared of snow, but in blizzards it may be closed temporarily.

## Don't miss

- Skiing the Goznuța, Crucea de Brazi and Slalom Uriaș slopes on the sides of Piatra Goznei Peak.
- Piatra Goznei Peak (1,447 m), the highest point of the Semenic Mountains, right above the resort.
- Lacul Vulturilor, a small mountain lake on the edge of the resort.
- The red-cross trail that descends from the resort to Comarnic Cave, 13.9 km.

## Good to know before you go

### Getting there

**By car:** from Reșița, climb the DJ582 (Transsemenic) via Văliug to the Prislop Pass, then take the DJ582E, ~8 km through the forest, to the resort: ~40 km in all (~1 hour). From Caransebeș, drive south on the DN6 to Slatina-Timiș, then on the DJ582 via Brebu Nou, Trei Ape and Gărâna to the Prislop Pass and from there on the DJ582E: ~53 km (~1 hour 5 minutes). From Timișoara it is ~164 km (~2 hours 40 minutes), via Reșița. In winter you need winter tyres and sometimes chains on the DJ582E.

### Where to park

Leave the car in the resort, next to the hotels, guesthouses and chalets, or at the roadside in the wider spots, without blocking the road.

### Fees & discounts

Entry to the resort is free. Ski passes are bought at the foot of the slopes, for a full day or half a day; prices may change from one season to the next.

### Rules

On the slopes, keep to the markings and safety rules, and children ski with a helmet. In the mountains, stay on waymarked trails, with warm clothes and suitable footwear, as the weather changes quickly on the plateau. In the national park, no fires and no litter; bears live in the surrounding forests, so do not leave food in view and do not feed the animals.

### Facilities

Accommodation in hotels, guesthouses and chalets · restaurants in the resort · Salvamont mountain rescue post
