## About SkiGyimes

SkiGyimes is a leisure complex in Lunca de Sus (Gyimesfelsőlok in Hungarian), in Harghita County, in the Ghimeș valley on the DN12A road between Miercurea Ciuc and the Ghimeș pass. It belongs to the company Forestaron and combines a ski area, a rail bobsled track, a hotel with a wellness centre and a heated outdoor pool. The name comes from the Hungarian name of the area, Gyimes, and in searches it often appears as “Ghimeș”, although the complex lies in the commune of Lunca de Sus, not in Bacău County.

The slopes are laid out on the hillside above the complex, between about 900 and 1,060 m above sea level, with a vertical drop of around 160 m. The rail bobsled track has been running since 2018 and can be ridden in any weather, in winter as in summer, so the place is worth a stop outside the ski season too.

### What you can see

The area has two slopes: a blue one for beginners, 800 m long, and a red one of intermediate level, 700 m long, served by two drag lifts (one with a “platter” button, one for two people). The slopes are also open in the evening, and at their foot there is a rental centre for skis, boots, poles, helmets, goggles and snowboards, as well as ski instructors.

The rail bobsled track is around 1.2–1.3 km long with a drop of about 120 m. You go up on its own lift in about five minutes, and the run down the rails, in carts for one or two people, takes around a minute and a half, at speeds of up to 45 km/h; in the evening the carts are lit.

### Good to know

The slopes can only be used with enough snow, so opening depends on the weather and varies from one season to the next. The bobsled track runs all year. Children under 3 are not allowed on the bob, and those aged 3 to 12 or under 135 cm may ride only with an adult.

## Don't miss

- The rail bobsled run, over a kilometre long, at speeds of up to 45 km/h.
- The 800 m blue slope, suited to first steps on skis.
- Evening skiing until 21:00 under floodlights.
- The bob in the evening, in lit carts.
- The view over the Ghimeș valley from the slope and the lift.
