## About Therme București

Therme București is a complex of thermal pools, saunas and relaxation areas that opened in January 2016 in the commune of Balotești, on the DN1, a few kilometres north of Henri Coandă Airport. It is run by Therme Nord București, part of the Austrian Therme group, and its building, a steel-and-glass structure with a section of roof that opens in summer, houses an indoor botanical garden with hundreds of thousands of plants and more than a thousand palm trees. It passed one million visitors in its very first year, and in December 2016 the family area was extended by 4,000 square metres.

The water comes from the complex's own well, about 3,100 metres deep, drilled between December 2014 and February 2015, and reaches the surface at around 81 °C. It is a chloride-bicarbonate, calcium-magnesium geothermal water with a mineral content of about 2.3 g/l; before it reaches the pools it is softened, desulphated and ozonated, and in the pools it is 33–36 °C. This is not a spa resort with medical treatments but a place for relaxation and fun, where you come for a few hours or a whole day.

### What you can see

The complex is divided into three zones, each with its own ticket. **Galaxy** is the family zone: the wave pool, a water playground for little ones, an indoor relaxation pool, an outdoor pool and the slide system, with 17 runs of varying difficulty, from children's slides to The Racer, where you race side by side with two others. Here too are a library built of Himalayan salt blocks, wet saunas and infrared loungers.

**The Palm** is the quiet, adults-only zone: the large thermal pool with a pool bar and jacuzzi, linked by a channel to the outdoor pool, three mineral-salt pools (Dead Sea salt, lithium, calcium and magnesium) and hydromassage loungers, all beneath the palms. **Elysium** is the sauna zone, with dry and wet saunas, including one lined with Himalayan salt, one built of Swiss stone pine and a cinema sauna, Aufguss sessions throughout the day, massages and a panoramic terrace.

Outside are the Pangeea park, with medicinal plants and minerals laid out as "continents", the gardens of the Feng Shui park and, in the warm season, the Sands of Therme beach, with 30,000 square metres of sand and an outdoor pool lined with palms.

### Good to know

Children under 14 are admitted only to Galaxy; babies under 3 accompanied by their parents may also go into The Palm, and no children are allowed in Elysium. At weekends and in the school holidays the complex gets crowded: the current occupancy is shown live on the official website.

## Don't miss

- The main pool in The Palm, with thermal water at 33 °C, a pool bar and a jacuzzi, beneath the glass dome and its palm trees.
- The three mineral pools in The Palm: with Dead Sea salt, with lithium, and with calcium and magnesium.
- The slides in Galaxy, with 17 runs, including The Racer, where you race side by side with two others.
- The salt library in Galaxy, built from about 40 tonnes of Himalayan salt blocks.
- An Aufguss session in one of the themed saunas in Elysium, where the sauna master spreads the scented steam by whirling a towel.
