## About Valea Cărbunării Ski Jumps

The Olympic ski jumping base in the Valea Cărbunării valley lies on the southern edge of the town of Râșnov and has four hills, with K-points at 90, 64, 35 and 15 m. Râșnov's first ski jump was built in 1936; today's complex came later: the small hills between 2009 and 2011, for the 2013 European Youth Olympic Festival, and the large K90 hill was brought into use in 2012. The land belongs to the town, and the investment was made with public funds and a private partner.

World Cup events for women (from 2014) and for men (from 2020), FIS Cup events and, every year since 2022, Summer Grand Prix events on plastic mats are held here. The hills have floodlights for evening competitions, snowmaking for winter and a chairlift that climbs the slope next to the inruns.

### What you can see

From the foot of the slope you can see the four inruns side by side, with the landing area stretching out in front; on competition days stands and tents go up here, and hundreds of spectators watch the jumps from the edge. The K90 hill, the highest, has its start at the top of the hill. In summer the landing slopes are covered with green plastic matting. A biathlon shooting range is also nearby.

### Good to know

The hills are sports facilities used for training and competitions; the best chance to see jumpers in action is at the international events. The town hall is preparing the modernisation of the Olympic base (a stand of about 2,000 seats, an administrative building, and the renovation of the K90 hill and the chairlift), ahead of the 2027 European Youth Olympic Festival, with funding through the National Investment Company; the works may change access to the area. For alpine skiing, the nearest ski area is [Poiana Brașov](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/poiana-brasov), ~13 km away, and [Râșnov Fortress](https://peplaiuri.ro/en/cetatea-rasnov) is ~4 km away.

## Don't miss

- The four hills, from K15 to K90, lined up on the same slope.
- The landing area of the K90 hill, with the tall inrun above it.
- An international competition, with top jumpers and, as a rule, free entry.
