## About Venus

Venus lies on the southern stretch of the Romanian coast, between Cap Aurora to the north and Saturn to the south, about three kilometres from the centre of Mangalia and 42 kilometres from Constanța. Like the other resorts in the chain, it is a component locality of the municipality of Mangalia, and it was built from scratch on open ground at the end of the 1960s.

The first seven hotels opened in 1969 and were given women's names — Florica, Veronica, Doina, Sanda, Iris, Corina, Zamfira — and the habit carried on through every later phase, up to 1972, when the resort was complete. Hence its nickname, “the girls' resort”. Unlike Neptun or Olimp, Venus has no single style: small hotels and villas are scattered among the trees around a lake in the middle of the resort, and the abundant greenery gives it the feel of a garden. The most unusual building is the Raluca hotel, a round building with a Japanese garden in its inner courtyard.

There are sulphurous mineral waters beneath the resort. The first baths to use them, together with the local mud, opened in 1973; today treatments are given at the treatment centre of a hotel on the southern edge of the resort, whose pools are fed from its own borehole.

### What you can see

The beach has fine sand and a gentle slope into the sea. Between 2023 and 2025 the national water authority widened it with sand nourishment, as part of the Balta Mangalia–Venus–Aurora lot, and in places the dry strip is now more than a hundred metres wide. To the north the shore is cut into small bays, closed off by breakwaters of concrete tetrapods, where the water is calmer. Behind the beach, lanes run down among the villas to the lake in the centre. On the western edge of the resort lies the Mangalia stud farm, which deserves a visit of its own.

### Good to know

Sulphurous water treatment is available only at the hotel's centre and is paid for separately; there are no public baths open on the beach. The special resort tax of 5 lei per adult per day is paid where you stay.

## Don't miss

- The bays at the northern end of the beach, closed off by tetrapod breakwaters, where the water is calmer than on the open beach.
- The wide strip of new sand brought in by the national water authority between 2023 and 2025, with a long walk down to the water.
- The Raluca hotel, a round building with the Japanese garden in its inner courtyard.
- The lanes of villas and small hotels around the lake in the middle of the resort, among the trees.
- A soak in the sulphurous waters at the treatment centre of the hotel on the southern edge of the resort.

## Good to know before you go

### Getting there

**By car:** Venus is ~3 km north of Mangalia and ~42 km south of Constanța, on the DN39 (E87). From Bucharest the drive takes around three hours: the A2 to Constanța, then the coast road through Eforie, Costinești and Neptun. The turn into the resort is signposted from the DN39, and the lanes from the main road lead down to the beach.

**Public transport:** Venus has no halt of its own; the nearest station is Mangalia, the end of the Constanța–Mangalia line. The line was closed from October 2025 while the Neptun and Costinești Tabără halts were modernised and reopened in June 2026, with direct trains from all over the country in summer 2026. From the station, the town hall's electric buses link Mangalia with Saturn, Venus, Cap Aurora, Jupiter, Neptun and Olimp. After several years of free travel, since August 2026 a single ride costs 4 lei; only certain groups of local residents (low-income pensioners, people with disabilities, Mangalia schoolchildren) travel free.

### Where to park

The public car parks in Mangalia and its resorts belong to the town hall and are paid through the Tpark system. In June 2025 the local council suspended the parking charge in the town and in all the resorts, Venus included, for that summer; the position for 2026 has not been confirmed publicly. Most hotels have their own car park with separate rules and rates, so it is worth asking where you stay.

### Fees & discounts

Access to the beach is free, including the equipped sections, where you pay only for a sunbed and an umbrella at the rates shown by each operator. A special resort tax of 5 lei per tourist per day is added where you stay, set for 2026 in Mangalia and in the Saturn, Venus, Cap Aurora, Jupiter, Neptun and Olimp resorts; war veterans and war widows are exempt. Treatments at the hotel centre are sold as packages, and the rates given by the hotel and by travel agencies differ, so check when booking.

### Rules

The beach is public property, and under Emergency Ordinance 19/2006 sector operators must leave access and movement free. No cars or quad bikes on the sand, no camping and no street trading. Do not climb on the tetrapod breakwaters: the concrete blocks are slippery and have deep gaps between them. Watch the flags at the lifeguard posts: red over yellow means a supervised beach, yellow that swimming is not advised, red that bathing is forbidden. For sulphurous water and mud treatment, ask a doctor first.

### Facilities

Lifeguard posts in season, contracted by Mangalia town hall · sections with sunbeds and umbrellas, bars and terraces on the beach · a treatment centre with sulphurous water pools and mud, in a hotel on the southern edge · hotels, villas and restaurants a few steps from the sand · electric buses to Mangalia and the other resorts · the sand is hard going with a pushchair or a wheelchair
