Top 100Waterfalls
27 resultsThe waterfalls of Romania are mostly mountain falls: they drop from glacial hanging valleys in the Făgăraș and Rodna mountains, over limestone steps in the Apuseni and the Banat, or over volcanic rock ledges in Maramureș and Harghita. The highest are not necessarily the most spectacular; many of the most photographed are small falls with water all year round, over moss-covered tufa. The flow depends a lot on the season: in spring, with the snowmelt, they are in full force, and by late summer some nearly dry up.
Bâlea Waterfall, on the Transfăgărășan, and Cailor Waterfall in the Rodna Mountains are among the highest in the country. In the Banat, Bigăr Waterfall and Beușnița Waterfall are tufa falls, with curtains of water over moss, while in the Apuseni Vălul Miresei Waterfall lies at the end of an easy trail from Răchițele. In the Bucegi, Urlătoarea Waterfall is a short walk from Bușteni.
