About Béldy László Castle in Budila

Béldy László Castle in Budila (Bodola) was built in 1731 by Count László Béldy, great-nephew of Pál Béldi, who had lived in a fortress on the same spot that was destroyed in 1612. The family held it until the 1940s, when it sold the building to an engineer; soon afterwards the state nationalised it. Under communism it housed pioneer camps and a school, and after 1989 it had various public uses, including a post office. It is a listed historic monument (LMI code BV-II-a-A-11615).

Today the castle is the seat of the Budila town hall and local council, so it is a working building rather than a museum. The Neoclassical façade, rebuilt in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is symmetrical: a two-storey central block flanked on the ground floor by side wings with porches. The corners have quoins and the windows decorative mouldings.

Information verified on 13 October 2026.

Don't miss
  • The upper balcony on six columns, with a wrought-iron balustrade.
  • The double Béldy-Sigmond coat of arms above the balcony door.
  • The pediment with relief stucco and the symmetry of the Neoclassical façade.
  • The park with tall trees in front of the building, good for photographs.
