About Castelul Lupilor (Wolves' Castle)

Castelul Lupilor (the Wolves' Castle; the official website calls it “Castelul Lupilor Transilvania”) is a tourist estate in the village of Chimindia, in Hărău commune, Hunedoara County, on the county road DJ107A. It is run by the company Parc Transilvania Land SRL. The place rests on a legend: the wolves of Dacia are said to have gathered here, under the Great White Wolf, to help the Dacians in their war against the Romans. The building's story, as the operator tells it, links it to the 1800s and to Austro-Hungarian officers who supposedly used the castle as barracks; it is not a listed historic monument with its own record, and independent sources on its history are scarce.

The visit is designed for families with children. The castle ticket covers the guided tour (optional: the castle can also be visited on your own), the observation tower and the gardens, and in the courtyard at the foot of the castle, about 15,000 square metres, stands a traditional village in miniature, with 12 farmsteads and churches made by the folk craftsman Ion Rodoș.

Information verified on 14 October 2026.
