Adorján Imre Manor
About Adorján Imre Manor
The Adorján manor in Armășeni (Csíkménaság) is one of the best surviving examples of a Székely noble dwelling in the Ciuc region. The Adorján family appears in records as early as 1614. Today's house goes back to a building of 1797, was rebuilt in 1835 according to the inscriptions on its beams, and was extended with two rooms towards the gate. The wooden gate, raised in 1828 by Sergeant Imre Adorján, is counted among the ten oldest monumental gates in the county and carries a Latin inscription.
The log building on a stone foundation has five rooms, a porch and a veranda. The family left the house after 1949, and it stood empty from the 1980s and decayed to the point of near collapse. It was declared a historic monument as early as 1955. From 2001 it has belonged to the Association for the Protection of Monuments in the Ciuc Area, which rescued it in stages; the full renovation, carried out under the Rómer Flóris Programme, ended with the inauguration in October 2021.
What you can see
The Székely wooden gate, with its own roof, is the first stop and can be seen from the road. Inside the house are the restored living rooms, with the terracotta hood of the open hearth, small doors and painted furniture. The vaulted cellar is worth a visit too, reached from the porch or by a spiral stair. Information panels in the yard tell the story of the Adorján family.
