About Transalpina Ski Resort

The Transalpina Ski Area (Domeniul Schiabil Transalpina), also known as Transalpina Ski Resort or the Vidra slope, lies in the north-west of Vâlcea county, in the commune of Voineasa, by Lake Vidra and ~7 km from Obârșia Lotrului, where the DN7A meets the Transalpina. The slopes were built with money from the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism and opened in December 2012. The ski area belongs to the commune of Voineasa, which leases its management to a private operator and approves the prices in the local council.

The base is at 1,350 m. From here a two-section gondola, about 2.9 km long, climbs through the forest to 1,800 m; higher up, a drag lift continues to Bora Peak, at 2,000 m. On the peaks above 2,000 m around Lake Vidra the snow usually lasts until May.

Information verified on 3 November 2026.

Don't miss
  • The almost 3 km gondola ride from 1,350 to 1,800 m, above the spruce forest.
  • The view of Lake Vidra from the gondola cabins and from the upper slopes.
  • The slopes on the open alpine ground, up to Bora Peak at 2,000 m.
  • The descent on the red run through the forest, along the gondola, down to the base.
  • In summer, the gondola ride up to the pastures on the ridge, with a bike or on foot.

Good to know before you go

Getting there

By car: from the DN7 at Brezoi (Olt Valley), take the DN7A up the Lotru Valley, through Malaia and Voineasa, over the Vidruța saddle and past Lake Vidra to the base of the slopes: ~70 km (~1 hour 10 minutes) from Brezoi and ~34 km (~35 minutes) from Voineasa. From Râmnicu Vâlcea it is ~106 km (~2 hours), from Sibiu ~137 km (~2 hours 20 minutes), via Brezoi. From Petroșani it is ~37 km (~45 minutes) on the DN7A, through the Jieț Gorge and Obârșia Lotrului, a road that in winter depends on the snow. Carry chains or winter tyres and check the road conditions before you set off.

Where to park

At the base there is a car park with 380 spaces on the upper levels and 120 on the ground floor. Parking costs 25 lei a day in winter and 10 lei a day in summer; on weekdays you pay at the ticket office.

In the mountains, stay on waymarked trails and bring warm clothes, as the weather changes quickly at 2,000 m. Bears live in the surrounding mountains: do not leave food or rubbish behind and do not feed the animals.
