About Muntele Băișorii
Muntele Băișorii, also known as Băișoara resort, is a mountain resort in the commune of Băișoara, Cluj county, in the Gilău–Muntele Mare Mountains, part of the Apuseni range, about 55 km from Cluj-Napoca. The Muntele Băișorii area is officially recognised as a tourist resort of local interest. Holiday homes and guesthouses are scattered across an open plateau at around 1,300 m, between meadows and spruce forest.
In winter, skiing centres on Buscat Ski Resort, the ski area below Buscat Peak (1,676 m), about 3 km west of the resort on the same county road. In summer, the resort is a starting point for walks on waymarked trails to the Scărița-Belioara Nature Reserve, Muntele Bocului and the Muntele Mare plateau.
What you can see
The Buscat ski area has five ski slopes, adding up to almost 5 km: a long, gentle green run, a blue, a red, a black and a short beginners' slope with a baby lift. The slopes are served by a chairlift that starts right at their foot; there you will also find a sledging slope, a tubing run, the après-ski restaurant, the rental centre and the main car park. In the resort itself, among the guesthouses, there is also an older slope served by a drag lift.
Several waymarked trails start from the resort: the blue-cross trail leads to the Scărița-Belioara Nature Reserve and descends through the Runc Gorges to the village of Runc, the blue-stripe trail crosses Muntele Bocului and drops into Valea Ierii, at Moara de Pădure, and others climb to Poiana Balomireasa, on Muntele Mare, and to Neteda Peak.
Good to know
The county road from the village of Băișoara (DJ107R) has been asphalted up to the Buscat slopes. The lifts run depending on snow and weather, and some slopes may stay closed when the snow cover is thin; the operator posts the status of each slope on its website and Facebook page. Parking at Buscat is paid.
