About Năvodari – Mamaia Nord Beach

At a glance: Seaside in Năvodari, Constanța County. Opening hours: daily open 24 hours. Ticket: Free. The visit takes 3½ – 4 hours. Information verified on 28 September 2026.

The beach of the town of Năvodari carries on northwards from Mamaia's sand, beyond the Constanța city boundary: some six kilometres of shore, from the end of Mamaia resort to the southern breakwater of Midia harbour. Two different worlds share the same strip — Mamaia Nord in the south, with its new blocks of flats, beach clubs and music until dawn, and the town's own beach in the north, wider, emptier, with the Petromidia refinery on the horizon.

The area only became a tourist resort of national interest in 2018, under Government Decision 37/2018 and the name "Mamaia Nord – Năvodari". Until then the coast here meant the children's holiday camp built in the 1970s with trade-union money, with its five sub-camps, and a handful of campsites. The camp is now a ruin caught up in litigation, and rows of holiday flats have gone up around it since 2010.

The sea shelves gently: the underwater sand shelf runs almost two hundred metres out without going deeper than two metres. Two sectors here, Phoenicia and Axxis, were awarded the Blue Flag for the 2026 season — the only ones on the northern half of the Romanian coast.

Don't miss
  • The 4.2 km granite promenade between Mamaia and Năvodari, with its gazebos, pergolas and fountains.
  • The underwater sand shelf, which runs almost two hundred metres out without going deeper than two metres.
  • The Phoenicia and Axxis sectors, the only Blue Flag beaches on the northern half of the coast.
  • The abandoned buildings of the 1970s children's holiday camp, right behind the sand to the north.
  • The Midia harbour breakwater and the chimneys of the Petromidia refinery, closing off the northern end of the beach.

Good to know before you go

Getting there

By car: Bulevardul Mamaia Nord is the continuation of Bulevardul Mamaia beyond the Constanța boundary, so you simply keep going straight through the resort. Mamaia Nord begins about 11 km from the centre of Constanța, and the Năvodari town beach is about 18 km out. To avoid the jams in Mamaia, take the DN 22 towards Tulcea and turn off for Năvodari at Lumina, the last ~7 km. From Bucharest it is ~250 km on the A2 and the Constanța bypass, close to three hours.

Public transport: the private minibuses on route 23 link Constanța railway station with Mamaia and Năvodari, stopping all along the boulevard. The town has four routes of its own, with a 2 lei ticket bought from the driver; in summer the seasonal route 4 runs from the coach station to Hanul Piraților between 06:00 and midnight, about every 40 minutes, while route 2 connects with Mamaia-Sat all year. A CT Bus service between Constanța and Năvodari has been announced for several years, so it is worth checking what actually runs in any given season.

Where to park

Unlike Mamaia, Năvodari town hall does not charge for parking on public land: you leave the car on the side streets of Mamaia Nord or in the car parks along the boulevard. Marked spaces in Mamaia Nord can be rented by residents and local businesses by the season or by the year — around 350 lei a month in June to August and 840 lei a year at the most recent allocations — and the town hall has laid out new car parks, including one of about 6,800 sq m with 107 spaces. In July and August the streets of Mamaia Nord fill up early in the morning; further north, by the town beach, spaces are easier to find. Driving onto the sand or the promenade is forbidden.

Fees & discounts

There is no admission ticket, and access is free along the whole length of the beach, including through the sectors leased to operators, who may only charge for the furniture. Mamaia Nord has some of the most expensive sunbeds on the Romanian coast: in the summer of 2025 one sector in the Alezzi area charged 200 lei for two sunbeds in rows 2–10 and 220 lei in the front row on weekdays, 220 and 250 lei respectively at weekends, 100–110 lei for an extra sunbed, 200–220 lei for a canopy and 300–350 lei plus a compulsory minimum spend for a beach bed. Early in the season sunbeds could still be found at 40 lei, rising towards 60–80 lei in July and August. Rates vary a great deal from one operator to another.

Rules

The beach is public property, and under Emergency Ordinance 19/2006 the operators who lease sectors must leave access and movement on the sand free. No cars, quad bikes or motorcycles on the beach, no camping and no street trading. Pets are admitted only with the sector operator's agreement and must be kept on a lead. Watch the flags at the lifeguard posts: red over yellow means the beach is supervised, red means bathing is forbidden and yellow that swimming is not advised. Along the coast, exterior building work is banned between 15 May and 15 September, but in Mamaia Nord the rule is often broken.

Facilities

Lifeguards and first aid points along the whole beach in season · showers, changing cabins and toilets in the developed sectors · dozens of beach bars, clubs and terraces in Mamaia Nord · shops and restaurants along Bulevardul Mamaia Nord · the granite promenade is flat and step-free, good for pushchairs and wheelchairs, though the sand is still hard going · free parking on public land · almost no natural shade · good mobile signal
