About Millennium Roman Catholic Church

The two brick towers can be seen from far away above the rooftops of Fabric. The Millennium Church is the largest Roman Catholic church in Timișoara, and it takes its name from the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian state, which it was built to honour. The building committee was formed in 1896 on the initiative of the parish priest Vudy Antal, with the mayor of Timișoara, Telbisz Károly, as lay president. The foundation stone was laid on 4 October 1896, and the church was consecrated on 13 October 1901. The design is by the architect Ybl Lajos (Ludwig von Ybl), and the building was carried out by the contractor Kremer József.

It is a Neo-Romanesque building, covered on the outside with exposed brick, 71 m long and 27.5 m wide across the façade. The towers reach 65.7 m including the crosses, and the central dome is 45 m high. The interior measures over 1,170 m² and has 48 pews, for a capacity of up to 3,000 people.

Information verified on 29 October 2026.
