About Tineretului Park

Tineretului Park is one of the largest parks in Bucharest, south of Piața Unirii, in Sector 4. The land, once called Valea Plângerii ("Valley of Weeping"), had been used as a rubbish tip; the park was laid out between 1965 and 1974 to plans by architect Valentin Donose, and the basic layout took only eight months, with voluntary labour by young people, hence the name ("Youth"). The park covers over 80 hectares. Its heart is Lake Tineretului, of about 13 hectares, for which height differences of up to 16 metres were reshaped.

What you can see

The best walk is along the paths around the lake, with weeping willows, islands and footbridges, especially in spring and autumn. A bridge crossing the lake leads to the Polyvalent Hall (now the Ioan Kunst Ghermănescu Hall), inaugurated in 1974 and used for concerts and sports competitions. The park has large playgrounds, rest areas and a boat landing. On the eastern edge stands the National Children's Palace, built in the 1980s as an extension of the park, and to the south-west the park borders Bellu Cemetery. The park has entrances from Calea Șerban Vodă, Șoseaua Olteniței, Calea Văcărești and Tineretului boulevard.
