About Saturn
At a glance: Seaside in Mangalia, Constanța County. Opening hours: daily open 24 hours. Ticket: Free. The visit takes 3½ – 4 hours. Information verified on 28 September 2026.
Saturn is the southernmost of the resorts built in the 1970s north of Mangalia and the only one that touches the town directly: Mangalia railway station stands right at its south-western edge, while to the north the beach runs without a break as far as Venus. Like its neighbours, it is a component locality of the municipality of Mangalia. In winter the resort empties almost completely.
The first nine hotels, among them Cerna, Cleopatra, Narcis, Cupidon, Aida, Atena and Tosca, took their first guests in the summer of 1971, and the tall blocks in the north followed in 1972. At either end stand the 14-storey towers — Atena and Diana in the south, Sirena, Balada and Hora in the north — with lower blocks between them. Villas and chalets are gathered in the Dunărea and Delta holiday villages.
The beach is being transformed. The northern part, towards Venus, was widened by the national water authority under the Balta Mangalia–Venus–Aurora lot, nearly finished by spring 2025. In the south, on the Mangalia–Saturn lot, the new groynes were completed in spring 2026, and sand nourishment resumed at the end of September 2026; the project provides for 2.5 km of protected shore and 20 hectares of new beach.
What you can see
The resort is recognisable from afar by its five towers, visible along the whole beach between Mangalia and Venus. The section towards Mangalia is known as Diana beach, the one towards Venus as Adras beach. North of the hotels, behind the sand bar, lies Mlaștina Hergheliei: a former lagoon of 98 hectares, a nature reserve since 2004, with reed beds, open water and sulphur springs, where swans, egrets and spoonbills stop on migration. The Hora hotel houses the Mangalia Spa and Rehabilitation Sanatorium, a public health unit offering sulphur-water and seawater baths and mud treatments.
Good to know
The hotels vary widely: renovated ones stand alongside buildings that were shut for years, and in September 2026 the consumer protection authority temporarily closed five hotels in the resort over hygiene failings. Recent reviews are worth reading before you book.
