About Vasile Pogor Museum – the House of Junimea (Casa Junimii)

The house on Strada Vasile Pogor was built around 1850 by the vornic Vasile Pogor and his wife, Zoe. From 1863 the “Junimea” society met here, and from 1867 to 1885 the magazine “Convorbiri literare” was published from this address. Titu Maiorescu, Vasile Alecsandri, Mihai Eminescu, Ion Creangă, I.L. Caragiale and Ioan Slavici all passed through its salons, and the people of Iași knew it as “the house with the lit windows”.

In 1901 it was bought by Princess Maria Moruzzi, who changed the entrance and the façades and placed the family coat of arms above the balconies. After the Second World War institutions were housed in it, and since 1972 it has been a museum. It was restored between 2018 and 2021 and reopened to the public in March 2022. It is a listed historic monument and belongs to the National Museum of Romanian Literature Iași.

Information verified on 7 November 2026.
