Thermal pools and water parks in Romania: where to go in summer, with children, for warm water and slides

Romania's large thermal pools, with warm water and slides, are at Băile Felix (the Apollo-Felix Complex, Aqua Park President, Felixarium), at Călimănești-Căciulata (AquaPark Cozia, with 9 slides) and at Therme București, where the Galaxy zone has 17 slide runs. All three have pools open all year round. In summer they are joined by the open-air pools at Băile 1 Mai, Geoagiu-Băi, Moneasa and Băile Herculane.
Below is a table of the pools, showing which are thermal, which are indoors and what they have for children, then resort by resort. The resorts themselves are described in the guide to thermal baths in Romania; opening hours and prices are on each resort's page.
In short
- The Apollo-Felix Complex at Băile Felix has 10 thermal pools, two of them for children, and 5 slides; it is open all year, but from 21 December the wave pool and the slides close until the following season.
- Aqua Park President, on the southern edge of Băile Felix, has 14 indoor and 6 outdoor thermal pools and is open all year (operator's website, November 2026).
- AquaPark Cozia, at Căciulata, has 13 indoor and outdoor pools with thermal water at 28–37 °C and 9 slides, open all year.
- At Therme București, children under 14 are only allowed in the Galaxy zone, the one with the wave pool and the 17 slide runs; the geothermal water is 33–36 °C in the pools.
- The thermal pools at Băile 1 Mai, Geoagiu-Băi, Moneasa and Băile Herculane are open-air and operate only in the warm season.
- Aqua Magic Mamaia and the aqua park at Arsenal Park have no thermal water and are open only in summer.
Thermal pools and water parks: comparison table
The table covers the pools and water parks on the resort pages of this site. "All year" means some pools are open in winter too; what stays open in the cold season is detailed in the guide to thermal baths open in winter.
In the west of the country there are other popular thermal pools, at Tășnad, Carei, Tămășeu, Lovrin, Deta and Aquapark Nymphaea in Oradea, which do not yet have a page on the site and are not included here.

The thermal pools of Băile Felix and Băile 1 Mai
Băile Felix, 8 km from Oradea, has three thermal water complexes. Apollo pool (the Apollo-Felix Complex) has been operating since 1900: ten pools, one with waves and two for children only, and five slides, behind the half-timbered pavilion. Aqua Park President, on the southern edge, is the largest by number of pools, with 14 indoor and 6 outdoor, slides outside and one that starts inside the building. Felixarium, the aqua park of the Lotus Therm hotel, has nine pools under an opening dome, with caves, waterfalls and two slides, plus open-air pools, including a 25 m swimming pool open from May to October.
At Băile 1 Mai, about 4 km away by road, Venus Waterland has geothermal pools and a playground, while the Wave Pool (Ștrandul cu Valuri), dating from 1896, starts its waves at the sound of a bell, in a pool with water at 26 °C. Both are summer pools. The area is described in the guide to thermal baths, under Crișana.
AquaPark Cozia and the pools of Călimănești-Căciulata
At Călimănești-Căciulata, in the Olt Valley, the geothermal water comes up from boreholes about 3,000 m deep at almost 90 °C and is cooled for the pools. AquaPark Cozia, at Căciulata, has 13 indoor and outdoor pools with water at 28–37 °C and 9 slides, indoor and outdoor, open all year. The zone with the indoor pools (zone B) opens daily; zone A, with the Oltul outdoor pool, currently operates only from Friday to Sunday.
At Călimănești, the Hotel Central aqua park has an indoor pool with massage jets, hydrotherapy and a jacuzzi; it is smaller and has no slides listed on its website. At both you enter with a 3 hour 30 minute ticket, valid for a single entry: if you leave, the ticket is lost. After your swim, Cozia Monastery is right at the exit from Căciulata towards Sibiu.
Therme București: the slides and pools of Galaxy
Therme București, on the DN1, about 19 km from Piața Victoriei, is not a spa resort but a pool complex with geothermal water from its own borehole, brought up at about 81 °C and cooled to 33–36 °C in the pools. For a day with children, the zone that matters is Galaxy: the wave pool, a water playground for little ones, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and the slide system with 17 runs, from those for children to The Racer, where you go down side by side with two others.
Children under 14 are only allowed in Galaxy, accompanied by an adult. The Palm, the zone with palm trees and the mineral pools, is for adults, and no children are allowed in Elysium, the sauna zone. The slides have age and height limits posted at each one. In summer, the Sands of Therme outdoor beach is added to the pools under the dome. The option for people in Bucharest is in the guide to thermal baths, under Bucharest.
The thermal pools of Băile Herculane: Șapte Izvoare
At Băile Herculane, in the Cerna Valley, the pools are open-air and operate in the warm season. Șapte Izvoare is about 5 km upstream of Piața Hercules, on the DN67D towards Baia de Aramă, with pools fed by warm springs, next to the campsite of the same name. Closer to the centre, about 700 m downstream of Piața Hercules, on the bank of the Cerna, are the Venera Baths, and at the entrance to the resort, in Pecinișca, is the Versay thermal pool.
The pools set their own opening hours and prices and do not publish them on an official website, so call ahead. The small sulphur-water tubs on the Via Sissi promenade are free, but have no lifeguard, changing rooms or opening hours: you bathe at your own risk. The resort is in the guide to thermal baths, under Banat.
Summer thermal pools: Geoagiu-Băi and Moneasa
At Geoagiu-Băi, in Hunedoara County, about 37 km from Deva, the Băile Daco Romane pool complex has four pools with thermal water at 29–33 °C: one 1.6–3.5 m deep, with a 10 m diving platform, one 0.6–1.9 m deep, the Olympic pool and a 50 cm children's pool with a slide. It operates in summer, and with the wristband you can leave and come back in. Next to it are the Roman Baths of Germisara, the ancient pool in the travertine mound, which can be visited but is not a bathing place.
At Moneasa, in Arad County, about 100 km from Arad, the pool in the centre has three pools from 80 cm to 1.90 m deep, fed with thermo-mineral water from a 31 °C spring, below the forests of the Codru-Moma Mountains. It is open throughout the warm season. Both resorts are in the guide to thermal baths, under Transylvania and under Banat.
Indoor water parks with thermal water, open all year
If you want pools and slides under a roof, for a rainy day or out of season, the options are few: the Galaxy zone at Therme București, under the glass dome; Felixarium at Băile Felix, with nine pools under an opening dome; the indoor pools at Aqua Park President, also at Felix; and zone B at AquaPark Cozia, at Călimănești-Căciulata.
Without slides, Băile Tușnad has Wellness Tușnad, open all year, with a thermal pool at 34–36 °C, a swimming pool, a children's pool and an outdoor pool. The Apollo-Felix Complex has open-air pools that stay open in winter too, but without waves and slides after 21 December. What stays open in winter, pool by pool, is in the guide to thermal baths open in winter.
Water parks for children: shallow pools and slide limits
For small children, shallow pools matter more than the number of slides. Pools or zones announced for children are at: the Apollo-Felix Complex (two pools for children only), Felixarium (children's pool and playground), Băile Daco Romane at Geoagiu-Băi (50 cm pool with a slide), the Galaxy zone at Therme (water playground) and Wellness Tușnad (children's pool). Venus Waterland, at Băile 1 Mai, has a playground.
The big slides have age and height limits, posted at each one. At Therme, children under 3 wear swim nappies and those under 5 wear armbands. At every pool, the rules are posted at the entrance. Very young children go in free at most pools, but the age limit differs from one operator to another; the exact ages are on the resort pages.
Thermal or not: water parks and pools with other water
Not every water park has thermal water. Aqua Magic Mamaia, on the coast, has pools, slides and a 360 m lazy river, but no thermal water, and is open only in July and August. At Orăștie, Arsenal Park has a summer aqua park with slides and indoor and outdoor pools, also without thermal water.
Other pools have mineral water, not warm water: the town pool at Băile Olănești has sulphur water heated to 28–30 °C, and the four open-air pools at Băile Săcelu have sulphurous, iodized water and mud, open in summer. The salt-water pools, at Ocna Sibiului, Durgău Salt Lakes or Băile Sărate Turda Lido, are in the guide to salt baths and salt lakes; the difference is also explained in the pillar guide.
The largest water park in Romania
There is no official ranking of water parks in Romania, and operators do not publish their areas in the same way. Going by the figures published for the complexes on the site, the most slides are in the Galaxy zone at Therme București, with 17 runs, followed by AquaPark Cozia, with 9. The most thermal pools are at Aqua Park President in Băile Felix, with 20, indoor and outdoor.
Aqua Magic Mamaia, the best-known water park on the coast, covers 27,500 square metres, but has no thermal water and is open only in summer. What else to do with children on the coast is in the guide to the seaside with children.
Before a day at a thermal pool
At almost all the large complexes you get in with a wristband: at Felix and at Therme you pay with it inside and settle the bill on the way out, and a lost wristband has to be paid for. At AquaPark Cozia the ticket is for 3 hours 30 minutes from entry, and extra time is charged. At Therme and at Aqua Magic you cannot bring in food and drink from outside.
Do not stay long in very hot pools, especially if you have heart or blood pressure problems (the rule posted at the tubs in Herculane); spa treatments are only taken after a medical consultation, as the operators require. The open-air pools at Herculane, Geoagiu-Băi and Moneasa depend on the weather. Hourly opening times and prices change from one season to the next and are on the resort pages; if you are choosing between resorts, see the best thermal baths.
