A day of skiing from the city: train, bus and night skiing
For a day of skiing without a car, the simplest are the Prahova Valley and Brașov. Bucharest–Brașov trains stop at Sinaia, Bușteni, Azuga and Predeal; from Bușteni station to the bottom of the Kalinderu slope it is about 20 minutes on foot, and from Azuga station about 3 km to the bottom of the Sorica slope. From Brașov, bus 20 goes up to Poiana, and from Sibiu the Tursib ski bus to Arena Platoș.
If you only have an evening, choose a slope with night skiing close to the city: Feleacu near Cluj, Arena Platoș near Sibiu, Subteleferic at Predeal, Șoimul at Gura Humorului. The full list of slopes with night skiing is in the main guide.
Small, low-lying slopes, such as Feleacu, Casa Baraj or Șoimul, open with artificial snow and depend on the cold: check on the slope's page whether it is open before you set off. When the slopes usually open is in the guide to the season.
